Pinterest username rules explained
Your Pinterest username (the handle in your profile URL, pinterest.com/yourname) is the address people use to find you. Pinterest keeps its rules simple, but a few of them trip people up every day.
The official shape of a handle
- 3 to 30 characters. Shorter than 3 isn't allowed; longer than 30 gets cut off.
- At least one letter. Numbers-only handles (like
12345) are rejected - Pinterest's signup says "a username must have at least one letter". Mix in at least one letter. - Letters, numbers and underscores only. No spaces, hyphens or dots.
- Everything becomes lowercase. Pinterest converts capitals automatically, so
PotteryBarnandpotterybarnare the same handle. If you type capitals, you get the lowercase version. - One handle per account, and handles are unique. If someone already has it, you can't take it while they hold it.
3-30 characters, only letters/numbers/underscores, all lowercase, it's shaped correctly. Whether it's free is a separate question. What makes a good Pinterest handle
Unlike gaming platforms, Pinterest is a search engine for ideas. That changes what a "good" name means:
- Match your brand or niche. People search for topics, so a handle that says what you pin gets found.
- Skip the numbers when you can.

How availability checking actually works
Every Pinterest profile lives at a public page: www.pinterest.com/<handle>/. When a handle is taken, that page returns the account's real profile: display name, follower count, pin count, avatar. When nobody has claimed the handle, the page comes back empty.
The namelot Pinterest checker reads those live public pages, so its answers are real signals from Pinterest itself, not guesses:
- Taken shows the actual profile behind the handle, with real follower and pin counts.
- Available means the public page for that handle is unclaimed right now.
- Unverified means Pinterest didn't answer cleanly, so the name is never reported as available on a fluke.
Using the checker well
- Single check for one handle you care about.
- Bulk check pastes a whole list at once, with no limit, in Normal or Fast pace.
- Random generator fills your list with true randomness from random.org (names are always lowercase, like Pinterest itself).
- Infinite mode keeps generating and checking automatically, survives tab reloads, and can ping you on Discord or Telegram the moment a good name is free.
Quick pre-flight checklist
- 3 to 30 characters?
- Only letters, numbers, underscores?
- At least one letter (numbers-only isn't allowed)?
- All lowercase (or fine with Pinterest lowering it for you)?
- Would it read well in
pinterest.com/yourname?
